Classics of Literature in Spanish

In the Classics of Literature Spanish Club, students are exposed  to Literary works in which they learn about characters, experiences, emotions, and perspectives that are relevant today. First and second graders discover the pleasure of reading while improving their literacy skills and developing rich vocabulary. They read books written by renowned authors such as Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Spain, 1547-1616), Gabriela Mistral (Chile, 1889-1957), Pablo Neruda (Chile, 1904-1973), and Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Colombia, 1927-2014). In this club they also learn about the authors’ lives, struggles, achievements and their passion for writing.

The club creates a sense of community where children learn empathy and relate to their peers when working on classroom activities. They read books, watch videos, use maps and make picture books that represent what they have learned about each author. Moreover, students learn about themselves and their background and culture. They take pride in who they are by getting a better understanding of the Spanish Language.

The club is open to Spanish speaking students in first and second grade. The club meets once a week from 12:00-12:30 pm in Ms. Rodriguez’s classroom.
